SEALMOTHER
It is not clear how the life of seals mother starts but at some time it is in freshwater. In 1638, she is first mentioned where the Lagarfljóts worm is mentioned:,, It is said that there are also two other monsters, sealmother and skatemother. In 1737, she is mentioned again in the lagarfljót and Hítarvatn and she is then described as a reddish-pink in color and the size of a large dog, but with small feet. The Seal mother can live in the sea, lakes and land. Between wars she digs herself in the mud or another soft bottom and goes into hibernation.
Previously, seals were very aggressive and often attacked the humans if they had to. If that didn't work they called their secret weapon, the Sealmother. Or she suddenly appeared unwelcomed if she heard someone coming. She was a true monster.
Stefán Ólafsson was a poet on Vallanesi and made a poem in the 17th century that goes like so:

Selurinn einn er undir fossi
Innt að bólmi, Hans augasteinn er bjartur blossi En bak sem hólmi. Lámum spennir leyndar krár Um lægis grunna, Fram úr enni hans er hár, Sem hríslurunnar. |
This poem is describing the sealmother saying that the sealmother is alone under a waterfall, that his eyes are like a bright diamond and that he has a hairtop on his forehead.

These words have been likened to these words from the Old testament where there is written about a areally big monster. It says: "Its sneezes flash forth light, and its eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn. From its mouth go flaming torches; sparks of fire leap out. Out of its nostrils comes smoke, as from a boiling pot and burning rushes. Its breath kindles coals, and a flame comes out of its mouth."
